The Late Corvus E.
By Corvus | June 30, 2005
Not, you know, in the permanent sense. Just in the “didn’t get around to posting first thing” sense.
Josh, from Cathode Tan and I have been talking about an idea lately that I, for one, am pretty excited about. We’re interested in starting a Game Blog Round Table. The idea came about when I suggested a “focused” carnival, one where everyone wrote about a single topic, but we decided that instead of changing the formula of the bi-weekly Carnival, we should start something new.
The idea is that once a month, on the 15th for example, I would send out a topic relating to game design, or an industry issue, basically anything that invites a multitude of viewpoints. Then, on the 1st of the month, we’d all post our views on the topic, and provide links to all the other participants in the round table. If this sounds interesting to you, please send off an email to manbytesblog ahhht pjsattic dawt com.* Do me a favor and put Round Table in the subject line, so my email client will group them all nicely for me.
I have another post in the works, on the physics of magic issue. I think it clicked with me what the argument is about, and it’s a semantic one. Could be wrong, but we’ll see.
For a moment this morning, my scanner wasn’t working with the new OS upgrade I performed yesterday. (See how honest I am that I didn’t blame my tardiness this morning on hardware issues?) For some reason I had to actually downgrade SANE during the upgrade and it wrecked a little havoc. Now, two scanners are recognized, but neither of them are the correct hardware ID, so installing them does me no good. Fortunately, I can load the correct driver, which appears to find the scanner, although I don’t specifically have the scanner installed. Odd. For every one thing I learn about computers, I find out about ten more things I ‘need’ to learn. On the plus side, it looks like Gimp 2.2 has cleaned up its interface a bit. Regardless, here’s the sketch o’ the day.

*Josh, I’ve wondered about the same thing, but if I were writing the script, I’d look for ‘com’, ‘org’, and ‘net’, and work backwards from there, peeling off brackets, replacing ‘at’, ‘dot’, and whatnot with the correct symbols and pull out the previous two demarcated pieces of text. It’d be dirty data, but I bet it’d gather enough info to make it worthwhile.
