Crazy Month Ahoy!

Logos, web sites, site designs and re-designs, some game conversation system planning (which is occurring spontaneously whenever my brain settles for a moment), moving (yes, moving!), job hunting, and something else which I need to do this month… what was it? Oh, yes.
Write six pages a day in an effort to complete a 50,000 word novel this month. Yes, it’s NaNoWriMo time! The site appears to be suffering somewhat this morning, which tells me everybody is already uploading their excerpts and updating their page counts. Hrm. I guess I’d better get started, hm? *kniw*
So here’s the deal. I need a Java boot camp. One week, locked in a hotel, having Java beat into my skull for mucho mas hours a day. I’m making slow progress on my own, but I’ll admit to learning much better (when new to a subject) with a couple of people to turn to and an externally set structure. It needs to cover 2d graphics and ideally it’d cap off the week with a day, or even half a day, of 3D. It’d be nice if they used Eclipse while they were at it, but I’d be happy using a text editor and command line as well. Windows should not be required, as I’d prefer to use my own laptop, but again, I’ll dance with the beast to get it done. So, I guess you can add “research educational opportunities” to the above list. So, if you have first or second hand experiences with training classes, let me know. I’ve got oogles (that’d be oodles of google links) of threads to follow, as I’m equally as capable of searching the web as the next guy (perhaps more than some).
Never let it be said that I make things easy on myself!
All right, I’d better get started. I’m driving to Philly this afternoon to sign a lease, so that doesn’t leave me a lot of time today!
Oh, something funny happened at TRU yesterday. A well dressed, older, gentleman walked up to the service desk and purchased a $50 gift certificate. He paid with a $100 bill out of the folded mass of double digit bills from his pocket. When I finished the transaction, I answered a call and quickly dealt with the customer on the line as the gentleman ostentatiously reorganized his thick wad of cash at the counter. When I hung up he pocketed his money and asked, “Corvus, how long have you worked here?” His follow up questioned were, “Do you like it here,” and, “Have you found a home?” I let him know that I had “some other things” in the works and that I’d be moving out of state within the next two weeks. “Ah,” he said, “I was going to recruit you.” I asked him what he did and he replied, “I’m in water. There’s a lot of money in water.”
I think I almost got a job offer from another of the area’s legitimate businessmen. Obviously, he’d have changed his mind after talking to my last boss.

I didn’t know people actually used the construction “I’m in X. There’s a lot of money in X.” I thought that was just a lazy scriptwriter line.
Good luck with NaNoWriMo. I’m going to give it a shot myself, but with all my other projects I don’t think I have time to take part in the community. You should post a link to your work in progress!

Just wait until I’m a city away. Oh, the stories I’ll tell. This place is a lazy scriptwriter’s dream.

Actually, King’s On Writing would say that’s a terrible move, and his reasons are pretty good. Certainly we’d have a hard time showing that he’s not productive. So don’t feel like you have to.

I’m doing the NaNoWriMo thing this year again, though I doubt I will have time to write everyday.

Great. Now I’m going to be thinking about Tank Girl all day.
I didn’t know people actually used the construction “I’m in X. There’s a lot of money in X.” I thought that was just a lazy scriptwriter line.
I’d be surprised if that encounter wasn’t scripted. The delivery sounds contrived.
