A Little Bit of Structure
By Corvus | January 9, 2006
With the combination of unemployment, the winter season, and… well, let’s just say some other less-than-pleasant life details, I’ve been having a hard time with focus for a while. Last Friday things reached critical mass (and continued to suck through the weekend), and my brain skittered from project to project, touching too many thing, getting work done on none.
This week, I’m trying something a little new. Two hours time chunks, in which I’ll focus primarily on one piece of my agenda. This might mean I research, or actually produce ‘product.’ So, for example, a day may consist of a Writing Block, a Job Hunting/Household Project Block (every day will have one of these), A Design Block, and a Coding Block. This isn’t to say that every moment of that two hour block will be spent writing, designing, coding, but that what task time I do spend, will be spent in that mien.
I am now at the end of my morning writing block. I’ve submitted four article ideas to the Escapist (I missed the train on the upcoming Role Playing edition, sadly), written two posts, and researched a book idea I’m playing with.
My next block is job hunting. Let’s hope it’s as productive!
Following that will be a blog design block, and a Java reading block. Then it’ll be the evening and time for some cooking, cuddling, and DVD watching with my swee-tie!

I’m sorry to hear about the suckage! January is tough, isn’t it?
I really like your 2 hour block idea! I suffer from that very same problem of divided attention and often will burn away naptime just trying to decide what to do, and before I know it, the Daughter is awake again!
Good luck on the job hunt and have fun with Ms. Knittidiot tonight!
