    System Updates – Updated

    By Corvus | October 19, 2006

I did a system update yesterday which took far longer than it ought to have. Now that it’s finally installed, my desktop is much crisper when displaying menus and such.

I’ve been under the weather and spent much of yesterday sleeping. I suspect it’s a matter of exhaustion and will be rectified after a few more evenings with a 9:00 PM bedtime.

Brian “Brize” Johnson seems like a respectable, and genuinely nice, man. So I’m certain that if you email him (brianjjo[at]hotmail[dot]com) to let him know that his new column at XBox.com (link) needs a new name because the one he’s chosen has already been taken (link), I’m certain he’ll respond quite favorably. I discovered this situation via Troy’s site, Flash of Steel (link).

I’m finally writing that character creation post that I promised! Hopefully I’ll have time to finish it this morning. Yeah, that’s done (link).

You’ve only got until 11:59 PM today to get your post included in this month’s Round Table! Follow the link in the sidebar for more info.

    Thursday. Bah.

    [UPDATE]

I just realized that the reason it took forever to download my updates yesterday was because I was grabbing the KDE version that was released yesterday. Had I been paying more attention, it would have dawned on me that I wasn’t grabbing the version released in August at all and waited a week or two for the server load to die down. Ah well, it’s all good. I’m two increments better off than I was before and it shows.

Also… the Flash 9 Beta was released for Linux today and it’s swell! I can now watch Flash video without an audio synch delay, view embedded YouTube videos (I could see videos on the YouTube site before, but not ones on other sites), watch the official Wii videos, and play all those games I couldn’t before.

Also, I’m a “create a keyboard shortcut to open commonly used applications” sort of a guy, but this video of the new KDE start menu for SUSE 10.2 looks pretty sweet (link)! I know a lot of Linux users prefer the old school window managers, but I appreciate me some fancy bells and whistles during my daily use.
