Game Newslettes

I picked up Zelda: Phantom Hourglass yesterday afternoon and immediately rushed off to docent training, which netted me some play time on the train. I’m two dungeons into it (just defeated the second boss) and I’m enjoying it quite a bit. It took my a little bit to get the hang the stylus controls, but they’re very well done and I’m now slicing my way through the world like the good little denuder of forests and grasslands that I am.
No pottery is safe now!
I’ve had to blow into the microphone three times so far, twice to blow out torches and once to remove dust from a map. I’m not letting it bother me. Once (while I was walking downtown) I was asked to shout and my, “Hey!” startled a couple of people.
There are WiFi Friend, Rival (N. America and World) and Anyone (N. America and World) modes. I’ve done well in the two games I’ve played so far. Well enough that my rivals fled rather than suffer defeat in the final round. I find that frustrating enough that I’m reluctant to continue trying Rival games, so if you’re interested in some playtime, my friend code is 3265-2995-5493. Who knows? If we get enough people playing, perhaps another tournament (this one with more traditional rules, perhaps?) will be in order. I’ll even make the prizes a little more enticing than last time.
In other game news, Dewey’s Adventure is on its way to me via Gamefly. I read this morning that it contains advertisements for a brand of bottled water. So, it doesn’t matter how good the game is, I won’t be buying it. Not new, anyway. I have no interest in supporting a publisher who inserts advertising into a full price game. None.
I finished my game writing contract with PoBros Inc. this week. They were a delight to work with and you can be sure I’ll talk more about the game and the process of writing for it once its been published. Until then, I’ll hide here under my NDA.
Right then, miles to go and all that noise. I’ll talk at you more (probably much more) tomorrow!

Congratulations on completing your first writing contract! You’re a *real* game writer now.

To be strictly accurate, I finished my first contract in… July and my first game story was published in August. This would be my second completed contract.
Not that I’m counting. *nirg*

For the record, I just edited my friend code, as they are evidently unique per save slot… not per cartridge. That makes sense, but… well, I’ll reserve judgment until I’ve finished the single player game and see what the re-play options look like.
