    Vintage Game Club

    By Corvus | August 25, 2008

The Vintage Game Club has voted to follow up Grim Fandango by playing and discussing Deus Ex.

Great, just great. I’ve got a big contract starting, a cross continental move next month, and several enormous personal projects demanding my attention.

I really ought to sit this one out.

    But I’m not going to.

Plenty of time for sleep when I’m dead, right?

Alex JC Denton, here I come.

Yay!! I’m so happy to know you’ll be joining us, Corvus…especially since I know the timing is so bad for you.

I guess *any* time is a good time for Deus Ex with friends! :-)

Deus Ex is one of the greatest games of all time. Gotta love the stellar voice acting and those snazzy shades.

And of course there’s the WTF? OMFG?!! which stands out in my mind as the most dramatic gaming plot twist ever ever especially since I had NO IDEA it was coming.

      Godspeed, Alex Denton.

Thanks Michael, I’m looking forward to it! I may try and play it through as far as I can this week and simply delay my responses until the appropriate time(s).

It’s been quite some time since I’ve played it, so it’ll be interesting to compare my faded impressions against a new experience.

@Jason Look, we posted subcutaneously. Plot twist… you mean about the bees? Yeah, that was a shocker. (0_o)

Erm… Alex Denton? The character in Deus Ex is JC Denton… Alex D is in Invisible War but even then the surname of Denton is open to debate.

Interesting that the name from a game I played through once sticks out in my mind more than a game I played through innumerable times, isn’t it?

Regardless, I named my character Alex this afternoon when I started up the game so I’m not entirely inaccurate ;-)

There’s nothing wrong with calling your character ‘Alex’, and it actually feeds into the underlying conspiracy motif that pervades the game.

Also, no discussion of Deus Ex would be complete without considering DOUG the Eagle’s delight write-up: http://www.it-he.org/deus.htm
