December ‘08 Round Table – UPDATED 12/31
By Corvus | December 31, 2008
Here we are at the final round table discussion of 2008! My thanks goes out to all the bloggers that contributed this year and made the round table such a success. This month’s topic continues the theme of the last two months, but asks us to peer into our crystal balls…
December ‘08
The Ghost of Gaming Future What role will gaming play in your familial relationships in 5 years? 10 years? 20 years? Having already explored both the past and the present, this month’s round table asks us to turn our eyes to our future gaming expectations. If you can’t picture how gaming will impact your own family, feel free to explore what game designers could/should/shouldn’t do to make gaming a more family friendly experience, or even to create and explore a fictional world where gaming is (or isn’t) a major part of every family’s life.
If you would like to link to this month’s Round Table, please do not link to this post! Instead, please link to this month’s entry on the Round Table page at: http://corvus.zakelro.com/round-table/#1208.
As always, check out the FAQ to find out how to submit your post to the Round Table and if you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact me. Please don’t submit your posts in the comments, but email links to me (if you already have my address) or use the contact form linked above.
If you would like to be alerted to new Round Table entries without revisiting the site, feel free to follow me on Twitter or my shared feeds on Google Reader. If you’re a Round Table contributor and Facebook user, I encourage you to add your blog to the Blog Networks application. Be sure to tag your blog with “video games” (note that isn’t a single word). While you’re there, be sure to become a fan of Man Bytes Blog, friend me, and invite me to become a fan of your blog too.
Not a day has passed and we have three excellent entries to start us off!
Dec. 2 – Spencer of Noble Carrots shares his view of a world where the concept of “gamer” doesn’t really exist in I Have a Game.
Dec. 2 – Travis of The Autumnal City paints a bleak Dystopian view of how far gaming will (and won’t) have come in the future in Do Gamers Dream of XP-valued Sheep?
Dec. 2 – Denis of Vorpal Bunny Ranch reflects on the current prejudices gamers face in the gay community and hopes for a more comfortably self-aware future in Gayming Closet.
Dec. 3 – Deirdra Kiai rejoins the round table (after NaNoWriMo consumed her November) and unleashed her dry wit on the future of gaming and family in Gaming and Significant Others.
Dec. 8 – Keira of Write the Game explores the continued impact of gaming on our families in The Ghost of Gaming Future.
Dec. 22 – Jorge of Experience Points talks about finding a gaming middle ground in A Future of Sharing Stories.
Dec. 28 – Erik of Elements of Meaning the teaching potential of games in Life is But a Game.
UPDATE
Dec. 30 – Scott, the other half of Experience Points echoes many of my own sentiments in his post The Future is Now.
