Blogs of the Round TableI would like to thank everyone who contributed to last month’s BoRT. It was a difficult topic and I appreciate everyone who rose to the challenge and contributed. I also appreciate those who were unable to contribute, for one reason or another, letting me know that the topic stuck with them and got them thinking. The BoRT is all about getting people thinking, whether they record and submit their thoughts or not, so please consider yourselves a significant part of last month’s topic.

The structure of this month’s topic ought to look very familiar to those of you who read and January entries:

    May ‘09
A Game Is Worth a Thousand Words: What would one of your favorite pieces of non-interactive art look like if it had been created as a game first? May’s topic challenges you to imagine that the artist had been a game designer and supersede the source artwork–whether it be a painting, a sculpture, an installation, or any other piece that can be appreciated in a primarily visual way–to imagine a game that might have tried to communicate the same themes, the same message, to its audience.

Notice that the topic doesn’t specify video game. Feel free to imagine a board game, card game, RPG, or sport. Be as vague, or as detailed, about the design particulars as you like. It would probably make sense to include an image of the art piece you use as inspiration and link to a large resolution version of it if possible.

If you would like to link to this month’s Round Table, please do not link to this post! Instead, please link to this month’s entry on the Round Table page at: http://corvus.zakelro.com/round-table/#0509.

As always, check out the FAQ to find out how to submit your post to the Round Table and if you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact me. Please don’t submit your posts in the comments, but email links to me (if you already have my address) or use the contact form linked above.

If you would like to be alerted to new Round Table entries without revisiting the site, feel free to follow me on Twitter, my shared feeds on Google Reader, or the Delicious Round Table tag. If you’re a Round Table contributor and Facebook user, I encourage you to add your blog to the NetworkedBlogs application. While you’re there, be sure to become a fan of Man Bytes Blog, friend me, and invite me to become a fan of your blog too.

Wow, this is a challenge for me as I have never identified an artwork as a favourite. Where do I even begin to work on such a goal! :) The joy of art for me has been avoiding that part of my mind which rates and ranks… ;)

I can see that this topic has totally fried the other contributors too! :)

I have spent a tremendous amount of time thinking about this, and have eventually decided that I will never be able to pick a favourite artwork. I am now thinking in terms of my favourite art *movement* instead, but don’t have a game idea yet….

Continuing to ponder. If I get something coherent, you’ll get a post. ;)
